Teach Yourself Guitar For Free

If you are a beginner and you want to teach yourself guitar then there are some resources that you'll need in order to make your first lessons as inexpensive as possible if not free.

There are really only two ways to teach yourself guitar and the first is hands down the best way, and that is through someone that you know, like and trust that is a good guitar player. This person should understand basics of playing the guitar such as how to read tabs and how to make chord and the different chord groups to make simple melodies.

Most of all this person should also have the patience to help you because your progression
depends on them showing lasting endurance as you are learning something that is new to you

But what if you don't know anyone that can help learn to play the guitar?

The next best thing to having a close friend that's good on the guitar is to go online. Many would-be guitarist are turning to taking online guitar lessons as a way to not only save on the cost of formal guitar lessons but to get a sense of a "mentor" that is there whenever they need them.

Unlike a good friend that plays the guitar who can immediately correct your mistakes, your online mentor is only available to correct you through the rewind button. However, you can
replay any lesson as much as you like until you are totally comfortable with what you have
learned before you move on to the next lesson.

Five easy steps to teach yourself guitar

You'll need to get the right guitar. For beginners that usually means an acoustic guitar with steel strings. Avoid nylon string guitars you fingers need to develop those callouses quickly and you want a durable instrument. It doesn't have to be an expensive guitar to learn with, just a good one.

Learn to read guitar tabs. They may look confusing for now but they are actually very easy to learn, you just have to practice reading them. Knowing how to read tabs will get you to playing any song quickly

Learn your chords and all of the basic chord families. Believe it or not you can actually make a living only knowing a handful of chords. Some of the easiest and widely used chords are A, A minor, A major, C, C minor, C major, D, D minor, D major, E, E minor, E major, F, F major, G and G major.

Work on those strumming patterns. A good tip on being able to catch up on the melody is to listen to the song first. Never advance to your style without knowing the basics. It might turn out hideous and instead of producing music, it will turn out as a noise. Strumming is considered easier than plucking. A sequence of “up, down, up, up, down, up” might be easier to remember.

Weather you choose to use the company of a good friend to help you or to go online and teach yourself guitar you must practice to learn to play well. Right now concentrate on learning, having fun and getting into the habit of regular practice
